Editing and Camera

What different editing and camera techniques can you see ?

In the Donnie Darko introduction , in the beginning the screen was in a distorted view and rotated 90 degrees to a normal view .

Camera angles such as wide shots, close ups, tilting and panning were taken of the different stereotypes in the school. These included people such as the pretty girl, rebel, little innocent girl and teacher .

The 'rebel' like character was viewed from a far angle then was taken at a close up angle to portray his facial expressions informing us as the audience that hes a troubled person.

The 'pretty girl' like character was viewed from a far angle as well then the camera went into a panning position as she walks away from her locker. This may be to demonstrate that she is one of the main characters.

The 'little girl' in the uniform was viewed in a close up to show. This may be to demonstrate her innocence .

How does this affect the sequence ?

This effects the sequence as viewing each stereotype are seen in slow motion. The use of slow motion portrays to us all he different types of students in the school. A quick change from character to character was made to fasten up he pace and to draw the audiences attention to the characters.

The characters are seen to be shown from bad characters to the good characters. This makes it easier for the audience to understand and to know what sort of problems may come across in he film.
