Storyline and Plotblog

In our group we analysed the teen movie '10 things i hate about you' .

The introduction of the film portrays the life of a teen girl whose in high school being compared to everyone through her journey to school. As she reaches school , the film introduces us to two new students joining the school. Before anything they meet the headteacher in her office then one is shown around the school. They point out all the different stereotypes around the school.

A binary opposition in the film is the main character being labelled as being the 'individual' who is usually independent and the popular girls who believe they are above everyone.

The 4 technical areas such as MISE EN SCENE , EDITING, SOUND AND CAMERA are used to identify how each scene is set up.

1. Mise En Scene
The car scene with the popular girls and Kat when they play their different types of music at the traffic light conveys how opposite their characters are.The popular girls are all made up with make-up and 'well dressed' with a flashy car (blue) .Whereas Kat is plain and casual with an red old car .

2.Sound
When they were at the traffic lights, the popular girls were playing girlie pop music which defines them to be like typical girlie girls. The main character plays loud rock music as she pulls up to the traffic lights demonstrating to us as the audience that she doesn't care.

3.Camera
The shot taken in the car scene of the popular girls is a wide shot which captures all 4 girls in the car. It shows that they are like a 'squad' and that they follow the main girl who is possibly the one driving. The two located in the  drivers seat and  passenger seat could be the people in the group who have a higher status than everyone else .

4.Editing
A shot reverse shot was taken to express the girls facial expression when they saw each other. It makes the audience know that they aren't friends and that they dislike each other .
